We have multi tenants with loads of servers not part of domains. We noticed when we asked the server owners to check for the listening port on their servers for Winmgt, they return with different high port numbers.

Is there a way to force all of them to use ONLY port 135 to make it easier to configure the sensors and also our firewalls?

Hello,

DCOM needs open UDP ports in the 1024-5000 range. If you want to narrow this down to a more specific range, have a look at this MSDN Blog: How to configure DCOM to listen to a specific ports range (from My WMI sensors don't work. What can I do?)

best regards.

Hi Torsten,

We wonder if we can make PRTG read from the default Port 135 all the time no matter whose Server, ranging from 2003 to 2008, otherwise we would need to configure the PRTG Device with customised WMI ports correct? How is that productive, if I manage 200 individual servers that are not part of a domain?

Please bear in mind that there is very little influence we have on the used ports on PRTG side. Fixing it to only use one port doesn't work usually and results in red sensors. But this is then an issue in the DCOM-Communication.
