Hello,

I have a UNIX device that have to be monitored.

But Every Sensor about SSH failed with this error : "No valid result from SSH Shell"

I tried some things I found on the knowledge base:

Shell timeout to 30 sec Scanning interval : 5 min I tried a "df -k" on the server and it takes about 0.5sec.

I tried to create a log file by checking "Write result to disk (Filename:"Result of Sensor [ID].txt")" but it didn't create any file.

Any idea on how to solve the problem. It's very important to us to monitor this server.

The server is an ubuntu server 12.04 LTS I'm using PRTG Network Monitor 14.1.8.1308

This may be an issue, where the target is 'too fast' and closed the STDOUT - Output, before PRTG is able to parse the result. We've tried to adjust the sensors for this recently. Could you try updating to the newest version to see if that resolves the issue? If the newest version (14.2.10) isn't available for the Auto-Update you can download the software from the Customer Service Center. In order to access the download link to the newest version please log into your online account and download it there. Please use the email address the license is registered to and your password to log in here: https://service.paessler.com/en/login/

Once you have downloaded the newest version there, you can install it directly over the version currently running.  The configuration and database will not be affected by installing the newer version over the old and the configuration is automatically backed up before this process.

I'll try the update, but before updating i would like to be sure that the probe will be automatically updated.

Last update I made took about 4 hours because I had to install manually every probe.

I don't want to loose an half day to update probes again.

The Probes should of course update automatically, but there can be conditions outside of our / PRTGs control, which could "break" the Automatic Update. So we cannot guarantee it I'm afraid.

Update done.

4 probes installed automatically 30 still need to be updated manually...

But My sensor still gives me the same response : No valid result from SSH Shell

I would suggest to open a new support ticket (not KB-Post), for the failed updates one the Remote Probes. We will need the logs of the Remote Probes, and that is much better handled with a support ticket.
If this particular Ubuntu does not work with the SSH sensors, I'm afraid the alternative would then be using SNMP to monitor it. Please give this a try.

OK .. I'll try it

Is there a documentation about snmp ? I'm not very familar with SNMP protocol.

Now i've just reinstalled all my probes (again +/- 4 hours of work) so I don' kknow if the logs are still possible to help but i'll contact the support
