We would like to monitor, how may VMs are running on a host - just the enumeration, how many are online / offline - as a number and not the machine names. Is there a way to customize such a sensor, because obviously there is not such a sensor, or we can not find it ?
Another thing is, that live migration could not be monitored if a VM moves on a different Host. Do you agree to this and do you think, this issue can be solved anytime in a new version ?

You could use Veeam monitor. The free version gives you quite alot of info (for free). Sorry PRTG, but used in conjunction it all works pretty well!

Hi Ute, As this is an old post but just in case: We do offer this functionality on ESX (Number of Vms running/not running) and some other usefull statistics via our own ESX sensor.
Also Veeam One sensor is in developement.
You can refer to prtgplugins for more information.

Hello,
the key with Vmotion is to add the Virtual Center Server as a device and then monitor the virtual machines there. Another solution from within PRTG seems hardly possibly as we do not know to which other ESX host a vm was moved. I'm afraid there is no way in the moment to see how many VMs are running on a certain ESX host.
best regards.
