Hi,

I added a VMware Host Hardware Status (SOAP) sensor to an HP DL360 GEN 10 server running ESXi 7.0. The sensor is in Error state, but I have no hardware problems reported by iLO or ESXi iself.

Why does PRTG sensor report a hardware error with the following text? Am I missing something is the sensor configuration ?

Error. 8 elements return an error state: Disk 13 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 29 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 12 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 27 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 11 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 25 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 10 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 24 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 9 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 23 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 8 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 21 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 7 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 19 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error; Disk 6 on HPSA1 : Port Box 0 Bay 17 : 0GB : Unconfigured Disk : Disk Error

Thanks

Hey kazz,

From our experience these warnings are transmitted by the CIM services from the target device. Mainly the reason is that the CIM service does not receive information from the drivers. Some updates of the ESXi change the internal way how the vendor specific drivers (Dell, HP...) communicate with the ESXi via CIM.

You can change the setting from "Show unknown states" to "Do not show unknown" states if you do not want to have a unknown status for warnings. That means that "Unknown States" should be ignored if you enable the option. Only actual errors would be displayed.

Hi Marijan,

I don't have any warnings for the HP Server. PRTG is reporting errors as I mentioned in my original post. Do not show unknown states is already set on the sensor. Looks like PRTG is seeing an Error state for the device that is not in the Error state.

What can be done in this situation ?
