I'd like to receive an email whenever my SNMP trap sensor receives a trap, but it seems it only goes into warning/error if the sensor goes down. I think the filter has something to do with it, but I'm really confused about the formulas. I put "any" in the Error Filter and it didn't seem to work.

I have set the error filter to "source[IP] AND spectrap[0-1000]". I get an alert now, but the state never goes to down. I've set the state trigger to alert when it's down for 0 seconds.

The syntax that you've mentioned looks correct:
| source[IP] AND spectrap[0-1000] |
Please confirm, did the sensor go down for one scanning interval when this trap was received? You can check that in the "Log" tab of the sensor.
If the sensor went down, it should also tell you whenever a notification was trigger. The trigger should be set-up like the following:
| State Trigger | When sensor state is | Down | for at least | 0 | seconds perform | My notification |
The remaining options from the trigger can be ignored.

To configure Notifications you'll first need to add Notification Templates at "Setup > Account Settings > Notification Templates". Here you can define who and how should be notified. After that you can define Notification Triggers at the "Notification Triggers" tab of the sensor. Here you'll can define when and how often you want to get notifications.
If the sensor doesn't go down/red despite of the above mentioned settings, feel free to send us screenshots of those settings and the "log"-tab of this sensor to support@paessler.com if you want us to take a closer look.

thank you for your inquiry.
To receive a notification, just add a trigger with a 0 seconds delay to the sensor. You must also make sure that you have the sensor's filters set-up so that the sensor goes into warning or error when specific conditions are met. These filters must comply with the filter rules syntax.
