Hi experts,

PRTG works with probes (local and remote) that gather all the monitoring information.

In RMON the monitoring devices are called "probes" too, but most of PRTG sensors are SNMP sensors.

I know that RMON is base in SNMP, but i want to know if PRTG solution is based in SNMP or RMON.

Hello there,

There is one dedicated SNMP RMON Sensor that will display data the device in question provides via RMON.

All the other sensors named "SNMP...." perform "standard SNMP queries" against a device's SNMP agent/service.

thank you for your reply.

RMON is SNMP based, it's essentially an additional SNMP MIB that some devices support. PRTG Implements sensors that work either by polling the SNMP IF-MIB or the RMON-MIB - The alternative that will work for you comes down to what your devices support. You can even use both sensors simultaneously, since they provide different metrics:
