hi everyone I've just enabled SNMP on my ESXi 5.x in hp server G5 the only thing that i want to monitor is failure of my SAS HDDS so i can be alerted on my disks failures so added "Sensor SNMP NetApp System Health" on my PRTG SERVER for the target host but it returns a red alert No such object (SNMP error # 222)

here is the log from Paessler SNMP Tester for OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.2.2 ----------------------- New Test ----------------------- Paessler SNMP Tester 5.2.3 Computername: PRTGHDDTEST Interface: 192.168.0.127 5/2/2016 10:14:04 AM (2 ms) : Device: 192.168.0.144 5/2/2016 10:14:04 AM (3 ms) : SNMP V1 5/2/2016 10:14:04 AM (4 ms) : Walk 1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.2.2

Hi,

This sensor is specifically for monitoring the status of a NetApp storage system. What might be better suited in your case should be the VMware Host Performance (SOAP) Sensor and VMware Host Hardware Status (SOAP) Sensor.

Kind regards.

tnx for the replay unfortunately none of those sensors you mentioned in your post shows the physical disks work fine or not, e.g in my hp i have to disks out of 8 are not working fine and the leds on the server blinking orange and need to be replaced but prtfg shows nothing in our organization we have more than 250 hp servers running esxi , and we want use prtg for the alram system on HDD failures, so far nothing came out in our lab test

Do you see indications in vSphere client about failing hard disks? Those mentioned SOAP sensors basically pull the sensor information that's also visible in vSphere's user interface. The mentioned Hardware Status Sensor would reflect those hardware related alarms if it gets this information from the host.

Kind regards.

tnx alot VMware Host Hardware Status (SOAP) Sensor shows great info on changing HDDs of the server

""Warning. 2 elements return a warning state: Logical Volume 1 on HPSA1 : RAID 5 : 820GB : Disk 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1 : Currently Recovering; Disk 2 on HPSA1 : Port 1I Box 1 Bay 7 : 136GB : Data Disk""

now is there a way to set an alarm for this kind of warning or state change of the hardware status (SOAP) like to make sound or visible on big screen and send an email?

You're welcome. As you can see, the sensor switches itself to "Warning" or "Error" state when it reads such events. In order to get notified, open the sensor's "Notifications" tab where you can define State Triggers for Warning and Error states that will perform the desired notification.

See also here on how to configure notifications that you can then select from when defining a notification trigger for a sensor.

Kind regards.
